No-exam life insurance

Fast-track underwriting requirements, eligibility criteria, and what to expect if you don't qualify.

Several insurers provide fast-track underwriting: they use application data, pharmacy records, driving history, and other information to make decisions for applicants within specific parameters, skipping the paramedical exam. Approvals can happen within hours. This site shows which products include this feature and whether an exam applies.

What it changes

Skipping an exam is not the same as bypassing underwriting. Your statements will be checked for accuracy; a policy issued based on incorrect information can be challenged for the first two years. If the carrier's review uncovers concerns, they may request an exam or blood tests; you'll have the opportunity to decide whether to move forward.

Who tends to qualify

Generally candidates younger than age 60 seeking coverage within the carrier's accelerated program limits, with a clean health history and no current tobacco use within the past twelve months. Prior blood work from a medical appointment is acceptable with some carriers in place of a new exam.

If an exam is required, a paramedical professional typically comes to your Rohnert Park home or workplace for a session lasting 20 to 30 minutes at no expense to you. Health results sometimes result in better rates, making the exam potentially advantageous instead of a burden.
